About the Kaicombey Foundation

The Kaicombey Foundation For Sustainable Development hereinafter known as THE KAICOMBEY FOUNDATION is a no for profit, and non-partisan, Non Governmental Organization that was established to create a positive impact on social justice, poverty and its underlying causes, and the social inclusion of children and women. The Kaicombey Foundation strives to fight against and reduces child and maternal mortality rates through the provision of free and affordable medical facilities, provision of public health education and training in postwar Sierra Leone. Reproductive healthcare is key to the values, norms and as fundamental rights of the people. The foundation is committed to community empowerment by providing resources and linking communities to donors.

The Kaicombey foundation believes in direct assistance through community driven programs so that the people and community can gain ownership over the projects and resources and will contribute towards the sustainability and social inclusion within their own communities.

The foundation was established by an initiative of the Kaicombey family from both home and abroad to be able to compliment the efforts of their beloved father, Pa Thomas Allieu Momoh Mendi-Ngla Kaicombey, commonly known as T.A.M. The Kaicombey Mendi-Nglah is a Royal family from the eastern part of Sierra Leone. The name Mendi-Ngla is a native name, meaning "Native Dog". The name was inherited through the great grandfather who was known by the chiefdom as a strong hunter. T.A.M was fortunate to be one of the educated ones among few others from the ruling/Royal family. As a successful figure from his family, he married a humble native woman, born and hailed in the Lower Bambara Chiefdom, kenema district by the name of Madam Fatmata Maggie Ibrahim. Both of them were blessed with four children, namely, Linda ìLî, Owen ìOî, Victor ìVî, and Emmanuel ìEî (The LOVE Family).

As a professional in the medical field, Pa Thomas Kaicombey Mendi-Nglah has been involved in community development programs and initiatives particularly in community and tropical medicine. He has ideals in supporting communities by empowering them to be self-reliant and has been dealing with people under a range of circumstance as follows:

  • Provision of free and affordable medical facilities to communities and individuals especially women and children under five who are among the most marginalize in the region. Also provide and distribute food to patients and other underprivileged individuals that are desperately in-need.
  • Persuaded and encouraged young people from rural communities to pursue further education in universities, colleges and the medical field through the provision of competitive scholarships. Both financial and lack of motivation to young people has contributed to the high dropout rate in post conflict Sierra Leone.

Education is expensive in Sierra Leone and could only be affordable by the wealthy. However, education is a right that is often violated in the context of poverty.

On this premise, Pa TAM has charged the entire family (his children) with the responsibility to give support and aid people under diverse circumstances by coming together with our resources however little to make a difference in the lives of others. The elder son of The Kaicombey Royal family, Mr. Victor Kaicombey pioneered these initiatives into practice by establishing a chapter of The Kaicombey Foundation in Canada to begin the establishment of a fund to help the efforts of the Kaicombey Foundation in Sierra Leone and the sub region.

The Foundation has successfully established a bursary/scholarship fund that is used to sponsor Education for young girls as complementary efforts to improve access to quality education, particularly for girls in poor and rural settings. This scholarship program could also help to tackle the underlying poverty that leads to child labor in Sierra Leone.
